A catchy name for a catchy product

Choosing a business name is a big decision, it’s vital to have something that reflects your brand, tells your audience what you do and also stands the test of time.

So, when Claire  needed to find the perfect name for her reusable spill sheet she came to Scruffy Dog Studio knowing we would assist her to create the perfect name.

One of Andie and Phil’s favourite and most enjoyable things to do is helping businesses come up with the perfect name and usually they start off with market research, which is exactly what they did followed by some serious “NAME” brainstorming sessions over cups of coffee, turmeric tea and normandy cider.

As well as business and brand experts, they are also proud parents to two creative 7.5 and 9 year old kids.

They can certainly understand and have experienced times when this product would have saved them much time and mess which further helped them to come up something unique and playful for the product. .

Creating a new business name is not just about coming up with spiffy suggestions, there is no point loving a name and then finding out it isn’t available.

Before Andie and Phil sent their list to Claire they first ensured the names they had short listed were able to be used by checking ASIC’s business name register.

From this list of available names the perfect name was found – Messcatch. It gives a clear image of what the product is, is catchy and easy to remember.

Of course, as with all Scruffy Dog clients a brand questionnaire was completed.

This process clearly outlines the goals and objectives of the business, the target audience and in this case, the pros and cons of the product.

The business name was just the starting point, next on the list was Branding, Website, Packaging and Sourcing Suppliers.

With a brand identity that was simple, playful and elegant, Andie started to create a logo with lots of hand drawn illustrations mixed with digital designs.

The end result retains some fun without being cliche. It helps to create a sophisticated message whilst still being true to the message and feel of the business.

When creating the bespoke simple website, touches of the brand elements were carried through in the images with the water splashes.

As with every physical product sold online Messcatch needed an e-commerce website that would allow an easy shopping card process for their customers. And of course, Phil was like a hound dog making sure the site was functional, user friendly and simple to use as well as targeted to maintain retention rates.

As with all Scruffy Dog’s built from scratch websites Messcatch’s site meets Google Standards, is SEO optimised and mobile responsive. Clients also receive a full style guide for future use, they can choose from a basic 1 page guide or more comprehensive 10 page guide depending on budget and needs.

With their business cards, flyers and social media images created ready to promote their product in every instance, the style cards ensure all their future needs are met too.

Being a full service design studio- Andie and Phil like to make sure that all aspects of print and online marketing are covered for their clients so they can carry on maintaining the brand image and style for the future once they have delivered it.

They believe there is no point in investing in a brand creation if clients can’t maintain the image and style.

This particular product also needed packaging to really finish off a superb branding project. Andie created several options for Claire to choose from and Claire chose a beautiful package design.

Sadly however, price is always a consideration for small businesses and startups and when we looked at the bulk packaging costs from the various overseas suppliers it was a bit over Claire’s budget, so even though she liked the design, it was clear a different plan of action was required.

Andie went back to the drawing board and came up with an alternative solution that was visually attractive, simple, met the budgetary requirements and kept Claire very happy. Scruffy Dog Studio are always committed to finding the best solutions for our customers, we don’t charge extra for these little details, it’s our pleasure to help you.

This new solution was an even better fit, not only could it be inserted into the client’s own bags but used as a flyer or stuck onto boxes.

Not only a beautiful design but versatile and budget friendly.

Branding and Business Development are an investment in your future success and Messcatch are now set up to get their product with all its uses and benefits out into the world confident in the impression they are giving.
